We had the honor of interviewing Nubian Queen Wanda Mays Noel, a graduate of Florida A&M

University, when we first launched our site as HBCUInterviews.com (now

MyHBCUInterview.com) a time ago. Wanda was kind enough to complete one of our original long

form interviews which delved deeper into the interveiwee which took the interview from that famed

“HBCU Experience” to the person who lived the experience.

When posed with the question, Why FAMU? Wanda showed us the power of family and enjoying

time together with your loved ones through her words. She also reminded us that just because a

person does not or did not attend college does not mean that they do not know the value of an

education.

“For as far back as I could remember, my family traveled to and attended games and functions for

FAMU. Although my step father never attended college, he made sure that I knew what being

college-educated meant. My father Jasper P. Moses, my brother Reginald Moses also graduated

from FAMU. I was in Upward Bound for the better my high school career and learned a lot about a

few schools. I matriculated at another non HBCU institution before going to FAMU and yes, the

experience was day and night. I always knew in my heart that I belonged at FAMU.”

For those parents out there or soon to be parents out there, understand that family = influence.

Every action you exhibit as a parent will become their character trait of which they will exude

throughout the rest of their life. Such was the same with Nubian Queen Wanda Mays Noel, whose

father and brother set the stage for her to choose to continue the family legacy at FAMU – if she so

desired. And it looks like she chose well.

Imagine as a youth smelling the aroma of all the perfectly seasoned food being cooked at the

concession stand and vendors all around the football field and what about the amazement of hearing

AND seeing the “Marching 100” play renditions of songs you only heard on the radio. FAMU is a

unique experience in itself and as time continues on we will be delivering more articles featuring

excerpts from our database of interviews with HBCU Students and Alum.

We thank you the reader and HBCUBuzz for the platform and opportunity! Feel free to read The
