How did you decide to become a student at Howard University?

My mother always told me in order to be the best you must surround yourself with great people, So I choose a school that stands on a very strong legacy! Howard University is the first HBCU and remains to educate some of the best African Americans while staying true to our history.



What professors at Howard University left the most impression upon you as a student and/or person? What did they do that continues to mean so much to you to this day??

Dr. Jules Harrell, my intro to psychology professor. He became my advisor ensuring that I receive the best college experience while maintain great academic status. To this day he fills me with encouraging words to make sure I continue my education until I become Dr. Jerrica Oliver.

What is the story of your “experience” at Howard University given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?

Howard is located in the Nations Capital and I happen to be in the District of Columbia when the First Black President was elected. The feeling on Campus was one of accomplishment and drive. At that moment most Howard students understood why they choose an HBCU and what they had to do for our community.

Can you feel the energy and the love?


Where were the spots to go to if you wanted to cuddle with your boy or girlfriend?

The Valley, Downtown DC, any of the monuments.

What were the best restaurants on and near the campus? Which dishes do you enjoy the most?

Ho Chi – 3 wings and fries with Mumbo Sauce on everything Ohhs & Ahhs– Fried chicken rice and macaroni and cheese

What were the chants heard most often at the sporting events?

Howard….Howard…..Howard….Howard…..U…. THE REAL HU Bbbbbbbbbbb Iiiiiiiiii Ssssss O N GO Bison!



Who was your College crush?

I still have a crush on him lol! He was a west coast psychology major, philosophy minor Wide receiver.


How did you overcome your nervousness about going to college?

I was not really nervous even though I went to a new state with no friends, I was ready for what ever challenge I faced. I lucked up and my resident assistant of my floor in the dorm was from Florida and she took me under her wing! we are still the best of friends she is like my big sister.


What was your major? and Why did you choose it?

I majored in psychology and I choose it because I love the inter-workings of the mind and why people behave they way they do.

What was your proudest moment @ Howard University?

The moment I was accepted to be apart of the Legacy at Howard University.


What was your saddest moment @ Howard University?

Walking across the stage at graduation.

How were you positively active on campus? (e.g. clubs, SGA, etc.)

Florida Club, psychology club, Andrew Rankin Chapel Liturgical dance ministry, College of Arts and Science honors, National Society of Collegiate Scholars

How many “firsts” did you have at college ? What were they? (e.g. first road trip, first job interview, first love, first “F or A”, etc.)

First time experiencing snow, First time understand the fast cultures of America.


If you could speak to those family members that have risen but that live forever through you, what words would you speak?

My great grandmother and I will tell her that we are lost without her but I will do my best to make her proud.


When and how did you discover your passion in life?

I discovered my passion in life when I was first introduced to the field of sport psychology.


Whats your take on life (in the philosophical sense)?

Life is what you make it, Be bold in life never living life with fear but with Caution. You will never know how something will work out unless you try it, so be the best you that you can be!


If you could only speak two sentences to the youth coming after you what would you say?

Know who you are and do what is best for you.


We thank you for taking time to educate the youth and the world of the greatness of Howard University. And we know that your great-grandmother is proud with where you are right now in life. Much honor and respect Nubian Queen Jerrica Oliver, go forth in this life with strength, peace of mind, and focus.
