Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*

I'm from Houston, TX. I was introduced to HBCUs in High school. I remember going to a church retreat and a woman educated all of the youth about HBCUs and her college experience.

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*

I wanted to experience the culture. I paid attention to the fraternity/sorority life, the half-time football game shows, the homecomings, etc. and wanted to experience the vibe and atmosphere I was seeing.

I also chose Howard University because of how prestigious it was. Getting accepted into Howard (in my mind) was like getting accepted into Harvard. I wanted to get away from family in Texas in order to spread my wings and fly.

What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*

I can wholeheartedly say that my experience at Howard University helped mold me into the woman I am today. I learned fashion/style at Howard, I learned the importance of the hustle, I saw go-getters on a daily basis that helped push me to want to be greater everyday. I crossed Alpha Chapter (AKA) and was a dancer of the Howard University's Showtime Marching Band.

4

"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*

I got my first car (a black Toyota Corolla) and lived in my first house!

5

Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*

Professor Freeman. His infectious personality and loving character made each day of learning a breeze.
