Keosha Pettigrew, Paine College- c/o 2011, Sociology

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*
I am from Conyers, GA. I was introduced to HBCUs by my late uncle and my dad.

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*
I chose Paine College because it was small & close to home. Plus I wanted to be around people that looked just like me.
What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*
I loved Paine. My first year I was home every weekend, but after that I stayed. Paine was everything. I can't even point out just one (experience). There was the student center parties, quad life...oh wait I know. When Obama won president everybody got their entire life that night.
"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*
My first homecoming. First basketball game. Oh and that one time my freshman year when I went off on my roommate in BG for going in my stuff getting my tissue. Man, that was funny. Lol
Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*
Dr. Mohanty (RIP), "Is it clear?"...I loved him. He taught me so much about sociology and further introduced me to what social work really was. Every year after I graduated and I went back he always remembered me.

What to date has been your proudest moment @ Your HBCU?
Graduating!!! I was the first child out of the family to achieve this. I wore my colors proud & it prepared me for life.
What are the chants heard most often at the sporting events?
"YOU! YOU! YOU!" & PCL got soulllllll...y'all know the rest
Who was your greatest influence in your life growing up? And Why?
My mom, she made sure I was straight throughout college. She really showed me that no matter what, you never fold!
What was your proudest moment in your life to date?
Obtaining my Masters in Social Work & giving birth. I love you Kaison!
