Henry Funny Junior, North Carolina A & T State University- c/o 2011, Electrical Engineer

Name : Henry Funny Junior

HBCU : North Carolina A & T State University

Graduation Year : 2011

Major : Electrical Engineer

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*

No answer here, proceed to the next question. :)

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*

My choice to come to A&T came from my AP calculus teacher (who was white) in high school. He told me that if I wanted to be an engineer and not leave the state, then A&T was the place for me. I knew A&T for its social lifestyle and a few of its nationally known alumni {Ronald McNair etc.}

What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*

There is no other place I would even stop to dream about being at than this university. The people, thealumni, the history, the opportunities are second to none. Of course every story has its ups and downs and I am no different. Staying focused with your studies is no easy task at this or any university for that matter. I had to learn how to balance my life in order to enjoy Aggie life & keep my gpa as high as possible.

But no matter who you talk to here on campus, there is no experience like Aggie Homecoming {Greatest Homecoming on Earth}. It feels like the entire east coast rides into Greensboro for the week. Nothing but memories to last you a lifetime.

"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*

On to the next question :) Nothing to read here.

Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*

I think Trevor Taylor is the guy who continues to leave a lasting impression since I’ve been here at A&T. When I entered A&T Trevor was my academic advisor and he told us, his students, that he would do everything in his power to help us succeed as long he is approached in a respectful manner. Throughout all my years here he has held on to his word. That approach has caught on to my mind and I have begun to apply that attitude to my lifestyle.

Best restaurants on/near campus? Best dishes?

“Cookout” is THE place to be if you ask me. While it is merely a fast food restaurant, it is exclusive to North Carolina and the food is on point. My favorite thing to order would be a chicken strip tray, with seasoned fries & nuggets as my sides with a huge fruit punch as the drink.

Ghost stories involving buildings or spots on campus?

None that I know of

What is your major? and Why did you choose it?

I am an electrical engineer. I chose this because I wanted to be like my father. My father is a genius but there is one area that he simply excels in. And that is the world of audio engineering. Music is the force that propels me each & everyday and I want to use my engineering degree to pursue a life in audio engineeringas well.

What to date has been your proudest moment @ Your HBCU?

There was no prouder moment than watching Obama’s campaign come to an end on election night. When McCain conceded to race to Obama there was the biggest feeling of joy that came about the campus. There was a light rain in Greensboro that night but that did not stop Aggies and Belles {students from Bennett College} from celebrating in the campus. Words couldn’t really describe the feeling of what the world was experiencing. At the conclusion of running throughout the campus, many Aggies gathered at the A&T 4 statue and a hush came over us and everyone recited ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ in unison.

Where are the spots to go to if you wanted to cuddle with your boy or girlfriend?

On a night with good weather and clear skies, take your girl to the fountain behind the student union and either sit there or onto one of the benches near the fountain. Excellent place to “cake” with your significant other.

What are the chants heard most often at the sporting events?

When you’re here at A&T, there is only one chant that matters, and thats “AGGIE PRIDE!”

Where is the “yard” located?

To me, the “yard” is on the “Greekside” of campus. From the cafeteria on to towards the Dudley buildingwhere all the plots are located.

What and where are the historical places on campus?

The A&T 4 Statue. Which commemorates the four gentlemen that started the sit-in movment On February 1, 1960, Joseph McNeil, Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair, Jr. (later known as Jibreel Khazan), and David Richmond, all freshmen, walked into Woolworth’s and sat down. They were refused service but they refused to leave.
