Aaron Hannon, Paine College- c/o 2012, History

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*
I was born in Hartford, Connecticut. I moved to Stone Mountain, Ga when I was eight years old. Stone Mountain is where I reside now.
I was introduced to HBCUs as a senior in High School by my father, (Stanley Hannon). He informed me of the rich history and culture that each school could provide and that I would love and appreciate.
I was hooked.

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*
Discussing my future education with my family I made the decision on the basis of environment athletics and education. The comfort I felt when i toured the campus won me over and I made the decision that day.
What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*
I just remember having events on the quad like dorm step parties, football on the quad, basketball games, playing baseball and the roads road trips with my teammates.
There was always something happening on campus. People moved off campus and still came on the yard to hang out and just fellowship with everyone. Numerous parties in the student center. Fried Chicken Wednesdays after Chapel.
Every day, you never knew what was going to happen. It was the best experience of my life.
"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*
My first College Basketball game was epic. Chanting PC got soul and drowning out the other teams fans was always a must. I enjoyed the family atmosphere no matter the age or year you attended Paine.
There were always hugs and continuous love. Whenever we played Albany State/Augusta State in the "Da Carter" Gymnasium. We would have that place rocking.
Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*
It was only one for me. Dr. Michael Taylor. He was the first professor I had that opened my eyes to not just trust what was written on paper but to find out through your own evidence.
Using your own research to find the truth about life and history. He definitely changed my life.

What sports do/did you play at your HBCU? What positions?
I played Baseball. First Baseman, D.H., Pitcher...
Best restaurants on/near campus? Best dishes?
THE LION'S DEN, ZAXBY'S, KFC, WENDYS NUGGETS
Your wildest moment at college?
When its rains on Campus. The Quad floods. We used to jump in the puddles. Epic times...
What are the chants heard most often at the sporting events?
PCL GOT SOULLLLL. SOUUUUL OUUUUL. PCL GOT SOUL. I LOVE MY PC. I LOVE MY PC. I LOVE MY PC. EPIC TIMES...
What was your proudest moment in your life to date?
Graduating from Paine College. My two kids were able to see me graduate.
When and how did you discover your passion in life?
After my eligibility was up for playing Baseball. I was able to be a Student Assistant Coach.
I have been coaching ever since. It has really become my passion. Developing young men into Men to become physically and mentally strong...
What's your take on life (in the philosophical sense)?
Life is what you make it. Believe in God and he will lead you to eternal happiness...
